Ritual ‎– Kangaroo Court [12''] (1983, Red Flame)

Goth (Positive) punk band Ritual, from Harrow in North West London, started in 1979 and were one of the first goth punk bands, but never got the same recognition as Sex Gang Children or Southern Death Cult. Prior to the 7″, Ritual released a six track demo tape. They also recorded tracks for an LP called 'Songs For A Dead King' but was never released. This LP was released on tape however. The band fell apart as drummer Ray Mondo and guitar player Jamie Stewart were asked to join Death Cult. Ray Mondo later switched the drummer seat with Nigel Preston (ex-Theatre of Hate) to play in the last line up of the (early) Sex Gang Children. Vocalist Errol Blythe and bass player Mark Bond joined Spon (ex-UK Decay) to form In Excelsis. Steve Pankhurst was the fifth member, playing sax. [SOURCE: DISCOGS]

Pavillon 7B ‎– Untitled [LP] (1987, Not On Label)

A fine album by Pavillon 7B, among the best albums from French coldwave bands. It's very dramatic throughout and the wild circling synthesized music is very well constructed. Orchestra Of Skin & Bone ‎– Orchestra Of Skin & Bone [LP] (1986, Major Records)

Orchestra of Skin and Bone were an Australian post-punk band active from 1984 to 1986. The band's core members were Ollie Olsen, Marie Hoy and John Murphy. They released a self-titled album in 1985, with the line-up of Olsen on lead vocals and guitar, Murphy on drums, Arnie Hanna on guitar, Marie Hoy on keyboards, David Hoy on cello, Tom Hoy on saxophone, Lochie Kirkwood on vocals and saxophone, Dugald McKenzie on vocals and harmonica, James Rogers on trumpet and Peter Scully on guitar. They also released cassettes on underground noise labels. According to Australian musicologist, Ian McFarlane, the ensemble "proved incomprehensible to local audiences and rarely played live." Two tracks from the album, "Sometimes", and "Ot-Ven-Rot" later appeared on the album by Olsen's project with Michael Hutchence, Max Q. [SOURCE: WIKIPEDIA]

Norma Loy ‎– 82 / 84 [LP] (1989, Just'In Distribution, Eurobond Records)

Usher (aka Anthon Shield) and Chelsea (aka Reed 013) met in 1977. They published books, organised exhibitions and performances and started up music with the band Metal Radiant (noise punk and Stooges’ spirit), then with Coit Bergman (more electronic and influenced by Suicide). In 1981 they formed Norma Loy (Alan Vega himself gave them the name), around which evolved different musicians. The band was connected to the french fanzine New Wave which set up a label, and launched a first EP called 'Romance'. In 1984, the band created their own label, CPM, wich developed and centralised all of the band different activities (musical and non musical: (photo)graphics, literature, video, dance etc., and manage all artistic production (recordings, artworks, sleeves...). Coldwave French unit Message formed in Brive-la-Gaillarde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Their members were Didier Brutus (vocals, guitar), Olivier Balet (keyboards, bass), Jean-François Saturnin (bass) and Jean-Philippe Lavallée (drums). They only released the 7” ‘Dernière Nuit’ (1988), in the Krezimikroïd label.

Lineas Aereas ‎– Landschaften / Benelux / Radiotron [7''] (1983, Discos Para Desayunar)

Líneas Aéreas was a duo from Barcelona formed by Francisco Palomo (aka Frank P.S.) and Jorge Gúber (ex-guitar of the legendary punk group Ultimo Resorte). They published only an EP in 1983, through the Discos Para Desayunar label, a subsidiary of Flor y Nata Records, in a 1000 limited edition with the tracks "Landschaften", "Benelux" and "Radiotron". The three tracks of this EP, one of them sung in German, were recorded on an 8-track, and follow the wave of technological fiction promoted by artists like Kraftwerk, although their robotic and austere rhythms are closer to the sound of the first Human League. Kiem ‎– Kiem [LP] (1984, Plexus)

Kiem formed in 1983 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and disbanded in 1987. "K.I.E.M." is an abbreviation of "Klank Improvisatie Elektronische Muziek" (Sound Improvisation Electronic Music). Their immediate success led to performances on jazz, rock and experimental stages and festivals and modest dance-hits in the Netherlands. Most remarkable about Kiem is Cees Meurs' metal drum-kit consisting of oil-drums, garbage bin, anvil, anchor-chains and other remains from the wrecked tow-boat "Corrie". This drum-kit –played like normal drums– accompanied by a squeaking saxophone (Ger Van Voorden), a synthetic keyboard and proclaiming vocals (Huub Kentie) result in a sound that might be type-casted as industrial, but also has jazz and experimental characteristics. Joanna Brouk ‎– Healing Music [Cass] (1981, Hummingbird Productions)

California-based Joanna Brouk composed slow, sparse works intended for meditation and reflection, utilizing acoustic instruments, vintage synthesizers, field recordings, and the human voice. Her music was inspired by classical minimalism, but it was embraced by the burgeoning new age movement during the 1980s. She spent numerous hours experimenting with synthesizers at the Center for Contemporary Music at Mills College in Oakland, and studied under the tutelage of avant-garde legends Robert Ashley and Terry Riley. After graduating, she went into radio production, and composed music for documentaries and other programs. She entered Mills' graduate program for electronic music in 1980, and created a work titled "Holy Saturday Mass", performed at the Oakland Cathedral of Saint Francis de Sales, as her thesis. Brouk's classmate Maggi Payne contributed flute, and the compositions appeared on Brouk's 1981 debut 'Healing Music', the first of five cassettes she released on her own Hummingbird Productions throughout the '80s. The tapes were a success with listeners of KPFA (where Brouk became program director) as well as therapists and hospitals. [SOURCE: ALLMUSIC]

I, Ludicrous ‎– Hats Off To Eldorado [7''] (1993, Old King Lud)

I, Ludicrous is perhaps the only band who copied The Fall and remained popular with that band's fans. This probably comes from the duo having owned up to their inspiration, and Fall leader Mark E. Smith booked them to support his band once he heard an early four-track cassette. Formed by John Procter and Will Hung (David Rippingale) in Brixton, South London, England in 1986, I, Ludicrous satirize insular British society while remaining provincial and in-jokey themselves. H&M ‎– Drama EP [12''] (1993, Axis)

H&M stands for "Hood & Mills". After the release of the 'Tranquillizer EP' in 1991 they reunited in 1993 for another round of Techno. However the first release was in the vein of a more minimal sound, this goes in the vein of a hardcore techno sound, with some tracks sounding like they belong as bonus tracks on 'Waveform Transmission Volume 1'. Another EP called 'More Drama' was released four years later, which doesn't contain the efforts of Robert Hood and only Jeff Mills. 

"Drama (Upstage Decision)" is a nice layered synth similar to 'Sleepchamber' from the 'Tranquillizer EP'; "Drama (The Wings)" is a rearrangement of the previous track; "Epilogue" is a nice deep weird bass that sets the tone of the track, while this really beautiful melody helps bring the track forward. 

"Real Life", pounding beats, driving through a really nice but simple stab; "Suspense", appropriately named as it does feel intense, with it's unique beats and looping pizzicato riff, like many of Mills tracks. The motif is really well put together, aided however by weak drum programming. The high strings that appear at random is also a great addition to help the riff's raw power; "Perception" has this mood of minimal, but loud and intense. The drums are excellent. Raw, aggressive and industrial. The track also features a deep bass synth, that is actually buried deep, but it's there and compliments the track extremely well. [SOURCE: RATE YOUR MUSIC]
