Ice the Falling Rain was a short-lived synth-driven New Wave trio comprised of former members of Manchester aggro punk band The ViolatorsSean Stiles (vocals, sequencer), Louise King (vocals) and Matchi (percussion, sequencer), plus Jim Bellicoso (synthesizer). Their sound is reminiscent of Human League. [SOURCE: NTS]
Hessel Veldman was born in 1956 in IJmuiden, Noord-Holland, Netherlands. Member of FNTC, Gorgonzola Legs, Portable Vaudeville and Y Create, was also co-founder of Exart with Nick Nicole in October 1982. The label wanted to spread new experimental and improvised music. The studio was the place to improvise, compose, record and make radio-programmes, mixes and remixes. At the same time Veldman started to preserve sounds in the Exart archive. In this tape he is accompanied by saxophone player Herman Te Loo and Kees Beukelaar (member of Rotterdans).
The Great Leap Forward is a band formed by former Big Flame member Alan Brown, when his previous band split up in 1987. After several releases the project was put on hold in 1990, but revived in 2008 with subsequent album releases.
The Great Leap Forward is essentially a solo project, although various musicians were added for live performances. The sound is more melodic and accessible than Brown's earlier band, but still with overtly political lyrics. After two EPs and a 12-inch single on Ron Johnson Records, that label's collapse led to a move to Communications Unique for debut album 'Don't Be Afraid Of Change'.
James Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers) included this debut EP in his top 10 favourites from the C86 era. [SOURCE: WIKIPEDIA]
Shortlived post-Live Skull noise-pop outfit with Marnie Greenholz on vocals on the first 3 songs, Mark C on guitar (and vocals on last song), Jim Sclavunos (ex-Swans, ex-Sonic Youth) on drums, and musician, composer, visual artist and graphic designer Lin Culbertson (Details At Eleven, Martin Bisi Y Las Cochinas, Muzzle, Spoiler, White Out) on something. The second 7" is a lot better than the first. Lavish double gatefold 7" with intriguing graphic design on every panel.

Esclarecidos were never a "professional" group, basically because their members never intended to make a living from music, something that, together with the fact that they were the publishers of their own records, gave rise to a prolific musical career full of avant-garde proposals wrapped in pop and totally free from the usual pressures imposed by the record industry. They were undoubtedly the first group of the spanish new wave to make "adult music", halfway between existentialism and yuppie hedonism, endowing all their songs with a refined aura of elegance and sophistication.
Esclarecidos were formed in the early 1980s as an escape valve for a group of friends closer to their thirties than their twenties. That first formation was composed of Cristina Lliso (vocals), Fernando Mata (guitar), Nacho Lliso (sax), Goyan Manzano (bass) and Alfonso Pérez (drums). On July 22, 1981 they gave their first concert, and only a year later their first album appeared, an EP containing three tracks: "Punto de Observación", "Música Para Convenios Colectivos" and 'El Muro Acabó con Matt'. With this work they also gave birth to their own independent record label, GASA (Grabaciones Accidentales S.A.), a company they formed together with the members of Décima Victima to publish their own records. Early proponents of what only later became the 4AD sound, Dif Juz concentrated on just that, lacking a vocalist on all their recordings except for a guest spot or two by the Cocteau Twins' Liz Fraser. Originally formed as the punk band London Pride by brothers Dave and Alan Curtis, the band included bassist Gary Bromley and drummer Richie Thomas by the release of two EPs for 4AD Records in 1981, 'Huremics' and 'Vibrating Air'. Both works contained textured instrumentals with a wispy, barely there feel which became a cottage industry for 4AD -ten years later. A third EP in 1983 ('Who Says So?') saw Dif Juz recording for the Red Flame label, and the band's 1985 debut album appeared on Pleasantly Surprised Records. The cassette-only 'Time Clock Turn Back' consisted of extemporaneous vamps recorded live in the studio, and spawned a reunion with 4AD. [SOURCE: ALLMUSIC]

Politically aware, always cynical, and powerfully musical, Born Against brought the passion and restless anger of American hardcore into the nineties. First active in 1989-90 in New York City, the band featured vocalist Sam McPheeters and guitarist Adam Nathanson, as well as a revolving cast of drummers and bassists. (The most solid lineup included Tonie Jay and Brooks Headley of Universal Order of Armageddon fame.) Born Against began with the usual round of 7" and compilation appearances, including a spot on Ebullition's influential 1991 comp 'Give Me Back'.
This is a bootleg vinyl edition of the 1989 demo tape 'My Country Tis Of Thee, Enemy Of All Tribes'. The track "Nail That Sticks Up" does not appear on the original tape, but is present here; it originally appeared on the 'Bllleeeeaaauuurrrrgghhh! - The Record' 7" compilation. The final track on the original demo, "Resist Control", is omitted entirely, although its lyrics are still present in the insert, as the lyrics there are simply a photocopy of the insert included with the tape. Alternate Learning was Scott Miller's first band, his musical occupation while taking his degree, the learning steps leading to Game Theory and finally The Loud Family. So the progression is evident, as this shares the same taste for jittery, keyboard driven new wave as Game Theory's early EPs ("I Wanna Be Hit by a Car", etc.). And while the writing and lyricism aren't as developed and refined as they would become (and some songs border on meandering) it's still terrific to witness his forever adolescent voice while he was actually still an adolescent. "Another Wasted Afternoon" begins with muffled whispers behind a rainy backdrop till the song springs into action and the wiry keyboards fly around, the taste for playing around with sound was already there from the get go. Returning to the colourful keyboards, it's undeniable how hooky some of them are ("Let's not Wait", "Ulysses") and how much they add. 'Painted Windows' is certainly not the best path into Scott Miller's universe, yet fans of his ever so quirky and refreshing compositional style will definitely want to track this down somehow, even if it's only for the impossibly bouncy gem "Beach State Rocking", perhaps one of Miller's catchiest recordings. 84 Flesh
was a French punk band from Paris,
previously known as 1984 and formed by Henry Flesh, Frederick Goddard and Pierre Goddard.
Both tracks on this single were compiled on KBD, and shows an angry, hard-hitting and dirty 70s punk rockers. The A-side is faster, the B-side is more melodic, but both are good. [SOURCE: RATE YOUR MUSIC]
