Yximalloo ‎– The Worst Of 1981 [CD] (1994, Sakura wrechords)

Yximalloo is Naofumi Ishimaru alone, but he drafts a loose ensemble of players, including the core of Shigeo Ootake and Takashi Korgo (who appear on all discs), as collaborator-executors. All of his releases are on his own label, and none have seen a distributor yet (which is why you very rarely find his CDs in stores). Ishimaru works like a Japanese Jandek without the angst, like the Boredoms minus the bombast. Spiritual kin to early artpunk and especially the LAFMS, he revels in mock-ethnic music and nonsense. Lo-fi, sweet and primitive, he uses ancient drum machines, hand percussion, and electronic droplet noises, sometimes set to melodies gathered from some imaginary South Sea island where the traditional instrument is seemingly an old '80s synth. Xenakis - Electronic Music [CD] (1987)

Iannis Xenakis (born 29 May 1922, Brăila, Romania - died 4 February 2001, Paris, France) was a Romanian-born Greek-French composer, music theorist, architect and engineer. He is regarded as one of the most radical and important composers of the twentieth century. He formulated a theory of stochastic music in the early 1950's, and in late 1954 he was accepted as a member of the Groupe De Recherche De Musique Concrète. He later joined Groupe De Recherches Musicales. He pioneered the use of computers for musical composition in 1961. As an architect, he worked with Le Corbusier and designed the Philips Pavilion for the Brussels World's Fair in 1958. In 1963, he published "Musique Formelles", a collection of his articles relating music, architecture, and mathematics. In 1972, he founded CEMAMu (Centre d'Etudes de Mathématique et Automatique Musicales) in Issy-les-Moulineaux, just outside of Paris. He has composed for a wide range of instrumental ensembles and solos, and his 'polytopes', sound and light spectacles, have been performed in a number of localities, including: Persepolis (1971), Paris (1972), Mycénes (1978) and again in Paris (1978). Wicked Kitchen Staff ‎- Debbie Grills Pulls Her Socks Up [LP] (1983)

Wicked Kitchen Staff existed in its original form during 1982-83. They were a core of 6 people, Tim on bass (plus violin on the album), Steve on drums, Finn Panton on guitar, Andrew Kort on sax, Jeremy Richardson on synth, and Russell Higgs on vocals and re-distribution of shoplifted goods among their audiences. The 1983 album 'Debbie Grills Pulls Her Socks Up', were performed by the original Wicked Kitchen Staff core of 6 people, plus added vocals from Laura and added percussion from Mick. During live performances Wicked Kitchen Staff always offered anyone from their audiences an invitation to pick up an instrument (or some object) and come on stage and join in the music making. Wicked Kitchen Staff had a reputation for distributing food and pamphlets and shoplifted gifts to their audiences. The Velvet Monkeys ‎- Future [LP] (1983)

Guitarist / producer Don Fleming and drummer Jay Spiegel formed the pop culture tribute band Velvet Monkeys in Washington, D.C., in the early '80s. Both were veterans of Jad Fair's long-running noise pop outfit Half Japanese, with whom they would continue to record throughout the 1980s (Fleming was also in The Stroke Band in the late '70s with Bruce Joyner of The Unknowns). Other members of their garage rock combo included Malcolm Riviera on guitar and keyboards, Elaine Barnes on keyboards and vocals, Charles Steck on bass, and numerous others (the lineup was fluid, to say the least). The group's first recorded appearance was on the 1981 compilation 'Connected' (Limp Records). That same year, they released their first full-length, cassette-only 'Everything Is Right' on their own Monkey Business label. It was followed by the similar-sounding garage-o-rama 'Future' in 1983. The Underneath ‎- Lunatic Dawn Of The Dismantler [LP] (1987)

A record that defies easy description. Its lack of direction / commitment to any recognizable genre is not interesting on its own, but helps to set the table for 70 minute-long unconscious, backwards / unconventional melodies (often barely in-tune to keep the listener in check), fish out-of-water type of experience. The magic's kept in place with enough toothpick structure to keep the little hamster upstairs huffing along. Maybe some kind of Fall / Waitresses / Godley & Creme hyb. Sardine V ‎- Sabotage/Sudan [7''] (1982, White Label Records)

Sardine v (or just Sardine) were an Australian post-punk band, formed in 1980 by Ian Rilen (X, Rose Tattoo) on guitar and vocals, and his then-wife, Stephanie Rilen (a.k.a. Stephanie Falconer) on lead vocals and keyboards. They issued a single, 'Sabotage' (1982), and an extended play, 'I Hate You' (1983). Ralph Lundsten And The Andromeda All Stars ‎- Alpha Ralpha Boulevard [LP] (1979, Harvest)

Ralph Lundsten is a Swedish composer of electronic music, as well as a film director, artist and author. He was born on 6 October 1936 in Ersnäs, Norrbotten, in northern Sweden, and now lives in Nacka on the outskirts of Stockholm, still close to the forest and the sea. His home is Castle Frankenburg, a pink wooden mansion dating from 1878 which also houses his electronic music studio, Andromeda Studio. Since 1959 he has lived an independent life, creating his own personal musical language, and preparing original films and exhibitions. His song "Out in the Wide World" serves as the signature tune for Radio Sweden International broadcasts. Quintron ‎- Satan Is Dead [CD] (1998)

A man of mystery, Quintron is essentially a one-man band hailing from New Orleans, LA. His weirdo rock centers around his manic organ playing (which can be heard at length on 'Play 9 Songs with Mr. Quintron', the gospel album he recorded with rowdy Memphis guitar slingers the Oblivians). While some of Quintron's later releases, and many of his collaborations with puppet-wielding partner Miss Pussycat, often yield quirky, fun songs, 'Satan Is Dead' is a bit more grating. From the opening strains of "Bass Solo" (a 30-second track of silence and tape hiss), it becomes clear that the album lacks focus and suffers from the absence of Quintron's spazzed-out Jimmy Smith-esque noodlings. The new "dance craze" Quintron promises at the introduction of "Do the Stomp" devolves into a fuzzy militant march. Written well in advance of hurricane Katrina, "9th Wd. Breakdown" offers a shout-out to Quintron's adopted home stomping ground in New Orleans. Most of the album's vocals are nonsensical mumbling, making it hard to point to any song as being particularly catchy or memorable. "Nonstop Danger" is driven by frantic organ lines and static vocals that give the feeling of being a radio transmission of alternate-universe gospel. "American music/Just like a time bomb," Quintron and Miss Pussycat chant. "Organ Solo" is likely the highlight of the album. Driven by a programmed drumbeat and topped with keyboard runs that blip and bleep like giddy Star Wars droids, the song is a glimpse at the experimental playfulness that makes much of Quintron's work worthwhile. In addition to his keyboard attack, Quintron is something of an inventor, best known for a contraption dubbed the Drum Buddy. In addition to the light-powered drum machine's use in several of 'Satan Is Dead's Southern-flavored avant noise tracks, the album includes an audio commercial for the Drum Buddy. Even more intriguing, the album includes a photo of the mysterious Drum Buddy contraption, which looks like a mash-up of a phonograph and a salon hair dryer. [SOURCE: ALLMUSIC]

Paris 1942 ‎- Paris 1942 [LP] (1997, Majora)

Before the “Tea Party-gate,” before twee-immortalizations by way of “quirky” millennial movie soundtracks, before playing with the Kropotkins, and before the Velvet Underground reunion in the 90s, Moe Tucker joined up with Alan and Richard Bishop of Sun City Girls, as well as fellow AZ collaborators David Oliphant, Bennie Baresi, and Jesse Akkari, and made an album. It’s an amazing mixture of early SCG-experimentalism, Velvet-inspired bashing, and howling, immediacy captured by way of equipment prone to tape hiss, as well as a living illustration of the link between the two generations. From this band, SCG would form, and the evolution seems as much obvious as it does brilliant, like one of those moments when you predict the end of a film and still find yourself totally immersed.
