Nord – Ego Trip [LP] (1985, L∴S∴D∴ Records)

Nord is a Japanese noise project, originally form in 1979 by Satoshi Katayama and Hiroshi Oikawa. This lineup released a self-titled LP on Pinakotheca in 1980. The duo split in 1983 and both members continued to use the name Nord. Oikawa put out several releases on L∴S∴D∴ Records, but didn't play live. He ceased activities in the late 80s. Merzbow ‎– Collection:001 [Cass] (1981, Lowest Music & Arts)

The first track alone is worth searching this out. It's an almost rock-based song (in that classic Merzbownian way) with rhythmic drums as well as guitar. Of course, it's feedbacky, it's noisy, and so on; but so far as Merzbow goes it's more traditional. It's a good starting point for someone who likes noise rock already. The next track is a bunch of blip bloopity electronic noises with some wet sounding swishes in the background with a dance number near the end. [SOURCE: RATE YOUR MUSIC]

Limp Richerds / Rancid Vat ‎– War Between The States [Cass] (1983, Not On Label)

Rancid Vat's side is some of the filthiest, most fucked up noise rock / sludge punk. Profoundly scuzzy. "Deuteronomy on Drugs" is staggeringly noisy for 83, and "Anti-Social Disease" is one of the better dirge-scum tracks. Whereas the Limp Richerds sorta sound like a cross between Kilslug and James Chance and the Contortions when it doesn't sound like the hardcore punk version of said combination. Not quite as good as the Rancid Vat side, but a hell of a lot snottier. [SOURCE: RATE YOUR MUSIC]

Jesse Garon & The Desperadoes ‎– Billy The Whizz [12''] (1986, Narodnik)

The original members of Jesse Garon & The Desperadoes were Andrew Tully (guitars / vocals), Eric Webster and Angus McPake (bass guitar), Fran Schoppler (vocals), Margarita Vasquez-Ponte (drums), Kevin McMahon (guitars), and Stuart Clarke (guitar). Tully, Webster and Vasquez-Ponte were also members of Rote Kapelle, a band that was active from 1985–1988.

This initial line-up recorded the first two singles, 'Splashing Along' and 'The Rain Fell Down' (described by one reviewer as a "pop gem that's not to be missed") on Narodnik Records. With the departure of McMahon and Clarke, Bruce Hopkins and John Robb were drafted in for third single, the 'Billy the Whizz' EP; these being replaced on a more permanent basis by Michael Kerr (of Meat Whiplash). Iphar Clinic ‎– Torture Music [Cass] (1983, Iphar)

'Birthdeath Experience' had the stated aim of continuing what had been done before by Throbbing Gristle, but it's the projects of Philip Best like this and the Male Rape Group that actually mimic the dense, sludgy noise of TG's live show more closely. 'Torture Music' is quality clandestine power electronics on the short lived Iphar label. It's the kind of stuff you've heard many times before but it doesn't matter as the execution is so solid. Hysterica Passio, a NY downtown 4 piece group, released their only single 'Grey Over Life' in 1982 for the Fire in Heart records. The band only lasted about 3 years but they managed to gain a good following playing at all the local venues such as Danceteria, The Pyramid Lounge, The Mudd Club and Maxwells. Glamour – Imágenes [LP] (1981, Polydor)

Glamour basically made New Wave, New Romantic and Synth Pop music. One could say that aesthetically and musically they resembled Japan, Roxy Music or Spandau Ballet. Seeing today the cover of the album one could think that behind the grooves hides the worst of the sound rottenness; big mistake! The album is more than good, they are good musicians and the lyrics, without being outstanding, are not as affected as other texts of that creative time. Dense songs full of textures and nuances, dark and sad as it could not be less. All the songs surpass without problems any quality standard, but a couple of singles made them known at national level, the magnificent song that gives title to the album "Imágenes" and the other outstanding song of the album "En Soledad".
