Der Junge Hund was an experimental rock and free jazz band formed in Eindhoven, Netherlands, by Rens Zanderz (guitar, synthesizer, vocals), Ger Van De Beuken (guitar, and also Z'EV collaborator in the 'The Invisible Man / The Old Sweat' album‎), Horst Rickels (saxophone, also in Maciunas Ensemble) and Rik Van Iersel (drums, later in Beukorkest). Der Junge Hund relased two albums, ‘Ridders’ (1981) and ‘Alte Und Idioten Werden Niecht Viel Gefragt’ (1982) and several tapes. They also recorded as Simulated Wood from 1983 to 1985, releasing the live tape ‘Simultaan’.

Alan Licht ‎– Sink The Aging Process [LP] (1994, Siltbreeze)

As guitarist with '90s indie rock group Run On, Alan Licht was known as a crafty pop sideman. As a member of Rudolph Grey's Blue Humans, he summoned feedback and noise from his guitar in the free improvised music context of post-punk New York. On this solo record, his love for minimalist music comes to the fore, presenting two side-long tracks of droning feedback that recall Terry Riley in their mantric intensity. "Betty Page" is a swirling and hypnotic noise-drone that collapses under its own weight; the guitars at times bring to mind Eno and Robert Fripp on 'No Pussyfooting'. While the flip side, "Polarity," is credited to Mike Watt, it is apparent that Licht is making a joke on the concept of it being a cover of the Minutemen, as the prevailing drone hypnotizes for some 20 minutes. Leading a new wave of minimalism coming from the post-rock quarter, Licht's explorations go a step further on 'Rabbi Sky', his subsequent solo album. [SOURCE: ALLMUSIC]

100 Flowers ‎– Presence Of Mind [7''] (1982, Happy Squid Records)

Originally formed in the late '70s as an intentionally silly punk band called The Urinals, 100 Flowers organized a few years later (around vocalist John Talley-Jones and vocalist/guitarist Kjehl Johansen) with a sound more rooted in angular post-punk. Based in West Los Angeles, the band recorded a self-titled album for Happy Squid in 1983 and followed with an EP the next year, but disintegrated soon after. K.P. Records was a Belgian independent label from Wangenies active in the 1980s connected with the Studio Maison Rose label. 'Topless Game' is a New Wave and Minimal Synth compilation released in 1982 featuring bands such Bitoks À La Russe, The Ashes, Flowers By Throe, Duty Free, Subject (formed by Alain Neffe, Daniel Malempré and Mirella Brunello), Darkness, Nosy Parker, Anonym, Cristal Swallow, Bene Gesserit (concentrated on husband and wife Alain Neffe -known as B. Wax Heroes ‎– Sher [7''] (1983, Electric Eye Records)

 

Wax Heroes, from Treviso, Italy, managed to capture the sound of transition between punk and post-punk. The songs were based on guitars with a coarse grain reminiscent of the Crisis of Douglas P. and Tony Wakeford, while the atmosphere -thanks to a powerful and enveloping bass- echoed those of the inescapable Joy Division. The guys were good at building melodies and pressing rhythms, but they were above all able to write pieces of impact, some of which are anthemic ("Sorrow Remains", "Win By Losing") Another small but precious piece of the Italian post-punk mosaic. Träneninvasion was a 1980 short-lived NDW and synthpop project by Holger Hiller of Palais Schaumburg and Michael Kemner of Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft. On the B-side of their only release you can hear Uli Putsch of S.Y.P.H. on drums. Their only single was released on Peter Hein's label Welt-Rekord.
