Killer Pussy were a low-rent B-52's, reworking the Athens, Georgia quartet's kitsch-saturated new wave quirk as smirky, vulgar jokes. Killer Pussy didn't have the B-52's' good humor or way with a hook, which is why their only album, 'Bikini Wax' (1983), is only of interest as a new wave artifact. The band's attempts at off-the-wall, wacky humor sound forced -in fact, they sound condescending, as if the members didn't understand the irreverence behind new wave and were simply making fun of it. Even if there were hooks driving Killer Pussy's songs, it would be hard to excuse moronically smutty jokes like "Pocket Pool," "Dildo Desire," "Moist Towelette," "Herpes" and "Teenage Enema Nurses in Bondage," which just have bad puns and shock value instead of genuinely clever dirty jokes. And since there are no hooks or humor on Bikini Wax, the record simply stands as a curiosity of the new wave era, proof that not everybody understood what was going on. [SOURCE: ALLMUSIC]
