The Effigies ‎- Fly On A Wire [LP] (1985, Fever Records, Enigma Records)

"They sound like Joy Division now," you say. And you'd probably be on a more accurate track if you compared them to Joy Division's original incarnation as Warsaw, with equal touches of The Ruts, Gang of Four, Stranglers, Killing Joke, and other English bands who employed guitar effects to make a harsh, gnashing sound instead of tickling and teasing in the U2 mode. Nevermind, this is one of the year's most important LPs, and it's surprising to note it, given that this Chicago foursome has been one of the toughest sounding, harshest, best punk rock bands in the U.S. for half a decade. This might be The Effigies highest moment so far, highlighted by "Machine Brennt" and "Forever I Know." [SOURCE: ALLMUSIC
