Ollie Olsen ‎– Emptiness [CD] (1999, Psy-Harmonics)

Ollie Olsen has produced much innovative music in Australia. Studied electronic music mid-70s under Felix Werder, a German composer living in Australia who had studied under Karlheinz Stockhausen. In the late 70's Ollie formed Whirlywirld, releasing a number of recordings on Missing Link Records. During the next ten years Ollie formed experimental outfits Hugo Klang and Orchestra of Skin and Bone, then the hard-core industrial techno band, NO

In the 1980s Ollie was invited to be the music producer for the movie of the same titled compilation album 'Dogs In Space'. He provided much of the soundtrack himself, including writing the hit song "Rooms For The Memory" for INXS front man and movie's star, Michael Hutchence. After a brief collaboration with U2 on the single 'New York, New York' by Ecco Homo, Ollie was approached by Michael Hutchence to produce an album with him. The result was 'Max Q'. Ollie also worked at this time with American producer Todd Terry and UK producer/DJ Paul Oakenfold

From the success of Max Q came a major record company deal and Ollie formed the band Third Eye. The group made one album before Ollie decided to concentrate on instrumental electronic music. Thus the label Psy-Harmonics was born, with the Third Eye's LP 'Ancient Future' as the first release. Ollie had a role as A&R for the Psy-Harmonics label, also producing a great deal of work for Psy-Harmonics. He has collaborated with other musicians on such projects as The Visitors, Antediluvian Rocking-Horse, Psyko Disko, Fluro Conspiracy, Higher Spin States, Assassin Device, Shaolin Wooden Men, and many others. His own album, 'Emptiness', explores Ollie's roots in avant-garde / experimental composition. [SOURCE: DISCOGS

Metal Y Ca ‎– Datos [7''] (1982, Lollipop)

Curro Rodríguez (vocals and synthesizer), Fernando Cañada (vocals and guitar), Fernando Cabello (saxophone), Ana Valenzuela (backing vocals) and Ana Villacorta (backing vocals) formed Metal & Ca, becoming one of the first synth-pop groups on the Madrid scene, where their electronic rhythms and lyrics ranging from industrial to sentimental and technical thinking predominated to produce exquisite melodic songs. In their compositions martial rhythms and charming lyrics full of naïf futurism glittered. They released their first record with Lollipop in May 1982, as well as being the first reference of the incipient label. It was an EP with the songs "Datos", "El Ultimo Sobreviviente" and "Humano". Lives Of Angels ‎– Alternative Programming [Cass] (1987, Color Disc)

Lives of Angels was the brainchild of Gerald O’Connell from London, England. In 1977 he joined his first band Mystery Plane, led by school mate Mark Harvey and later joined by his soon-to-be wife Catherine. Due to a lack of resources it was impossible to do the kind of music that was in his head. So he built his own studio. Gerald branched off in 1980 forming Lives of Angels as an outlet for his own compositions. Influenced by the Krautrock sounds of Neu! and Amon Duul II as well as US psychedelic rock, Lives of Angels crafted their own unique post-punk sound. Gerald says he has been influenced by, in no particular order: Van Dyke Parks; Tangerine Dream ('Zeit'); passing trains; The Grateful Dead (especially "Dark Star" in all its iterations); Ash Ra Tempel; Van Morrison ('Astral Weeks'); Steve Reich; Michael Rother; Albert Ayler; Neu! ("Hallogallo"); Glenn Branca; the sound of the city; distant playgrounds; late sixties San Francisco Psychedelia; Debussy; aircraft engines; Bulgarian folk song; Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan; Philip Glass; Wagner; Vaughan Williams; the dance bands of Zaire, especially Dr. Nico and Tabu Ley; Klaus Schulze; Schubert; Ornette Coleman; Arnold Bax; waterfalls; footsteps in cathedrals. Killer Pussy ‎– Bikini Wax [CD] (1994, Oglio Records)

Killer Pussy were a low-rent B-52's, reworking the Athens, Georgia quartet's kitsch-saturated new wave quirk as smirky, vulgar jokes. Killer Pussy didn't have the B-52's' good humor or way with a hook, which is why their only album, 'Bikini Wax' (1983), is only of interest as a new wave artifact. The band's attempts at off-the-wall, wacky humor sound forced -in fact, they sound condescending, as if the members didn't understand the irreverence behind new wave and were simply making fun of it. Even if there were hooks driving Killer Pussy's songs, it would be hard to excuse moronically smutty jokes like "Pocket Pool," "Dildo Desire," "Moist Towelette," "Herpes" and "Teenage Enema Nurses in Bondage," which just have bad puns and shock value instead of genuinely clever dirty jokes. And since there are no hooks or humor on Bikini Wax, the record simply stands as a curiosity of the new wave era, proof that not everybody understood what was going on. [SOURCE: ALLMUSIC

Janitor Joe ‎– Big Metal Birds [LP] (1993, Amphetamine Reptile Records)

'90s noise-alt group Janitor Joe is best-known as the original band of late bassist Kristen Pfaff, who would go on to join Courtney Love in Hole. Originally comprised of members Joachim Breuer (guitar, vocals), Matt Entsminger (drums), and Pfaff, Janitor Joe was formed in Minneapolis during 1991. The trio signed with the Amphetamine Reptile label shortly thereafter, issuing a debut LP in 1993, 'Big Metal Birds', a must for any fans of noise rock over-shadowed somewhat by Nirvana's success at the time. An extremely consistent album for those who like their bass fuzzy, guitars minimal, but caustic and the overall mood close to sleazy and creepy. Joachim's vocals veer between tensely lower register spoken voice and snarling, gruff voiced screaming. They sound like a better written Tar or a darker/noisier version of The Wipers. The Hanatarash ‎– 4: AIDS-A-Delic [CD] (1994, Public Bath)

Hanatarash was formed in Osaka, Japan when Yamatsuka Eye met Mitsuru Tabata at a Einstürzende Neubauten show. Their noisy compositions were created by tape manipulation, power tools, Eye's hollering and more. Hanatarash is most known for their violent live shows. One of the most famous incidents was Eye destroying a part of the stage with a bulldozer. Other incidents include cutting a dead cat in half with a machete, throwing a lit molotov cocktail on the stage, and Eye almost cutting his leg off due to a circular saw-related accident. Audience members had to sign disclaimers that they would not sue the band for potential injuries that might occur during a show. Beer bottles and gas tanks are said to have been thrown at the audience. The band was soon banned from performing at every venue in Japan, but they were later allowed to perform again without the trademark danger. "Hanatarash" is a truncated form of the word "hanatarashi," which means "snot-nosed" in Japanese.

This is the album that inspired Mike Patton to record 'Adult Themes For Voice'. This album features many works that exemplify Eye's insane re-mixing abilities. It was recorded and mixed in 1991 on a single day. [SOURCE: RATE YOUR MUSIC]
