'What Comes After' is one of the best early ECM albums. Barre Phillips uses acoustic basses along with Sveinung Hovensjø on electric bass. ECM stalwart Jon Christensen (drums) plays on this album and for that matter, on most early 70s ECM albums. Guest Bassist Barre Phillips wrote two of the songs with the rest being Terje Rypdal compositions. Side 1 is excellent and the title song which kicks off side 2 is another stand out. Side 2 closes with the two Barre Phillips compositions.
Like most of Terje Rypdal's early ECM albums, this album is also rather dark and gloomy sounding. If you like the early Terje Rypdal albums and haven't heard this one then you will not be disappointed. In fact, 'What Comes After' is one of the best albums that Terje Rypdal ever made, don't miss it! [SOURCE: ALLMUSIC]
