100 Flowers ‎– Drawing Fire [12''] (1984, Happy Squid Records)

Arriving a year after the group's sole full-length album, the five-song EP 'Drawing Fire', 100 Flowers' final release, shows that things were still flying high artistically for the trio. The leadoff track, "Bunkers," uses calm (but by no means sweet) backing vocals and all manner of found sounds to add to the crisp drive of the song. "Long Arm of the Social Sciences" avoids having to come up with lyrics to match the great title by being a chugging instrumental with some fine guitar from Johansen, something he also provides, in a weirdly sweet way, to "Triage." "Contributions" meshes attractive guitar chimes with an uneasy droning buried deep in the mix and extremely disturbing lyrics from Talley-Jones, while "Let's Not" wraps it up with a last little kick of energy and art / thrash.
