This Edinburgh-based act emerged in 1986. Initially viewed as an informal venture -its founding line-up was largely drawn from members of another group, Rote Kopelle- The Desperadoes nonetheless established themselves as the leading exponents of the city’s ‘shambling’ scene, alongside the more fêted Shop Assistants. Fran Schoppler (vocals) Andrew Tully (guitar/vocals), Angus McPake (bass) and Marquerita Vazquez Ponte (drums) provided the core of a unit that made its debut with the melodic ‘Splashing Along’, a single sympathetically produced by ex-Jesus And Mary Chain bass player Douglas Hart.
